‘The Wanderer’
I had initially intended for the bison to be a solitary subject for this piece, however I couldn’t resist the chance to display yet another symbiotic animal relationship within my art.
Where you find bisons, you will likely find cowbirds.
Where you find cowbirds, you will find insects.
The bison flushes the insects out of the grass as it walks along, and the cowbirds use it to their advantage, tagging along with him as he roams.
The older, more dominant Bison bulls are known to be solitary- preferring to wander on their own, or on the outskirts of herds.
The wood used for this piece is one half of a large slab of cherry - the other half of the piece being ‘Beary Season’, my second largest.
It has warm tones with a slight hue of red, creating a beautiful natural sepia effect often seen in old timey western style photos.
It takes multiple viewing angles to truly appreciate the depth of this piece.
